Who We Are
Miklat is a non-profit umbrella organization committed to providing secure housing, legal aid and counseling for religious women, and their children. It is the only place where religious women can turn when seeking shelter from domestic violence – from anywhere in Israel.
Through its branches: Miklat Bat-Melech shelters for married women and their children; Miklat Nigunim hostel for teenage girls; and Miklat Oz Ve’Hadar legal aid for all women in need; Miklat assists more than 1,500 women each year.
We see ourselves as partners for life to those in need, through legal proceedings, rehabilitation and ongoing support. Equally important is our promotion of awareness programs where leaders and young people are encouraged to take steps to prevent domestic violence in their own communities. The seminars are designed to empower educators and community leaders, as well as young adults of dating age. They are taught to reveal and verify domestic violence in their own communities by identifying the key warning signs and initiating methods of response.
Our programs foster financial independence and vocational guidance for women who turn to us. To this end, we have built strong relationships with social and educational institutions in Israel and work closely with the Ministry of Social Welfare.
