Success Stories
Our work at Miklat Bat-Melech is both emotionally and physically draining. One of the main sources of our strength is the success stories of our woman – our partners. Each one a heroine in her own right, most of these women arrive in an extremely battered state with their children in tow. Through professional therapeutic programs and the dedication of our staff, these women are transformed from victims into independent, strong individuals. These accounts are based on real-life situations. Only the names have been changed to protect the women and their families.
We would like to share the success stories below and trust that you will find them as inspiring as the women they describe.
Rachel
"We are safe, we are secure and we are loved - and nobody can threaten or take that away from us."
Rachel is a 30 year-old mother of three children. She is a computer programmer by profession, but instead of concentrating on developing software she was forced to worry about her family´s survival. In the spring of 2008, she arrived at the Miklat Bat-Melech shelter with her three children seeking refuge from the never-ending torrent of abuse they endured at home.

Sarah
"Miklat Bat-Melech is not a shelter, but a revival center for women in need - a place where joy and happiness can spring forth."
Sarah is a 38 year old bookkeeper with three daughters aged 7-10. Due to the intense emotional abuse of her husband, Sarah lost her self confidence and was no longer able to work. His psychotic control over family finances and all aspects of family decision-making caused Sarah and her children to live in constant fear.

Miriam
"After I heard on the radio that a woman was killed by her husband, I immediately took my baby and went straight to Miklat Bat-Melech."
Miriam is a housewife in her mid 20´s with a three year old daughter. As opposed to our other success stories, this was written when Miriam had been in the shelter for only two months. Her account reminds us of the tremendously important role Miklat Bat-Melech plays in providing religious women with an immediate solution when their lives are in danger.

Irit
Irit´s confidence grew. When she completed her courses, Irit told one of the social workers, "I´m on the road to a new life. I feel like my daughters and I have a wonderful future waiting for us."
Irit was 38 years old when she arrived at the shelter with her three daughters - Hudi aged 10; Maya, 8; and Avital, 7.
For years, Irit and her children lived a tormented life. Her husband took control of everything – all the decisions, all the finances – all while he constantly belittled Irit and yelled at his daughters. Irit could not function under the pressure and as a result lost her job as a bookkeeper. The children did poorly at school and had no friends. Irit and the girls lived in constant fear about what might happen next.
